A Durban pharmacist has been jailed for his role in an undercover operation to sell a counterfeit Viagra after the health regulator confiscated a product that had been bought at a pharmacy.
The man, who is believed to be from Durban, was arrested by Border Services Agency (BSA) officers on Tuesday. The product was found to be counterfeit and had not been tested in the last three months.
In March, two men from Durban, in north South Wales, were intercepted by officers at the pharmacy on the South Wales border.
A second man, from Harrold, had a similar product seized at a pharmacy on the outskirts of the city. It was the first time that Border Services Agency has confiscated such a product. The two men, who are between 20-30 years old, were arrested and taken to a Border Services Agency (BSA) officers' station.
The man, who is believed to be from Durban, is being held without bail in a separate case.
A spokesman for the Border Services Agency said: "Our intelligence services, Border Protection and Customs are working closely with the Border Services Agency to combat this problem."
He added: "We will continue to monitor the situation closely, as is our obligation, to ensure that there is no criminal activity that would lead to serious consequences, such as arrest or detention."
The case is being investigated by the National Border Service, the Welsh Border Agency and the BSA.
